How to prepare for online learning

Your skills

You must have the necessary skills to navigate basic functions of a laptop or desktop computer, video conferencing software, browsing websites, and downloading, saving, and accessing files. If you are unskilled, seek help before joining the course as remote learning may not be suitable for you.

You must have a good understanding of spoken and written English. Learning needs are accommodated so you must notify us in advance so we can make provision to help you.

Your environment

The room you are using must be quiet, in an undisturbed location, have adequate space, lighting, and ventilation for the duration of your course.

The remote learning environment is a classroom. The room and facility you are joining from must enable your video and audio to remain active throughout the course tutorials without noise disruption or interference from others not attending the course.

Your device

The device you are using must be a laptop or desktop computer. You are not permitted to join with a smartphone or tablet as your primary device.

The device you are using must be equipped with all software required to join the course remotely and updated fully. Any routine updates required should be postponed until the course tutorials have finished.

The device you are using must have fully functioning video and audio, i.e., webcam, microphone, and speakers. You should carry out a functionality check before joining the course.

The device you are using must be equipped to access external websites and able to download documents and files directly from external sources or via video conferencing software ‘chat’. If in doubt, you should check the functionality of your device with your IT Department before joining the course.

Your internet connection

Your internet connection must be stable and have the bandwidth to allow both video and audio to remain live and for documents and files to be downloaded for the duration of your course.

You should check the connection quality and speed before joining the course.

Your responsibility

To be eligible for the examination, you must attend all tutorials, participate in group sessions, attend the scheduled programme, and complete all exercises, workbooks and case studies assigned to you by your tutor.

In addition, your tutor will be assessing your participation, commitment, and attitude towards your learning throughout your training course. You must pass the tutor's review to be eligible for the examination.

You are responsible for your learning. Your tutor will provide you with all the necessary study material to facilitate your learning.

Access to course study material will be provided to you by your tutor. These may be provided to you ahead of your training course so it is recommended you familiarise yourself with them before joining. Full instructions will be provided by your tutor.

If you are unable to adhere to any reasonable instruction given by your tutor, you may be removed from the course. This is rare however please ensure you are fully prepared before joining.
